Idon’t use the word UNIQUE lightly. Thisis a recovered relic from the actual US Navy Submarine. This is a HUGE 170 mm (about 6 ¾ inch) indiameter, 1,363-gram (3.0 pounds, 0.1 ounce) Uniface Cast Bronze WallPlaque recovered from the Ballistic Nuclear Submarine AbrahamLincoln (SSBN-602). The USSAbraham Lincoln was the last vessel of the George Washington class of fleetballistic missile submarines (there were fives subs in the class). It was the first ship of the United StatesNavy to be named for Abraham Lincoln. Shewas launched on May 14, 1960 and christened by Mrs. Mary Lincoln Beckwith, great-granddaughterof Abraham Lincoln. She was commissionedon March 11, 1961 and decommissioned on February 28, 1981. She was sold for scrap and recycled on May10, 1994. This wall plaque was recoveredduring the scrapping process.

The plaque is very lightly worn, and has alittle verdigris (fairly natural considering the boat sat unused for 13 years withoutA/C before it was scrapped.). Also, there is considerableresidue on the reverse of the adhesive used to glue it to the wall in the boat.Because this version of the AbrahamLincoln was decommissioned, we have an Abraham Lincoln Aircraft Carrier today(CVN-72, launched in 1988).
