This is an Extremely Rare PairVictorian Solid Silver Novelty Twin Babies wrapped in swaddling Double Vesta Case, this very special Twin Baby Solid Silver Vesta Case is rare and carries the makers mark of C. G, i would date this very rare Double Vesta Case to Circa 1870 though it could be older, making it at least 140 years old, i have never seen a Twin Babies wrapped in swaddling clothes before, its so very unusual, the detailing is superb, from the babies wonderful expressive faces, you can see rattles being held in each babies hand, to the swaddling banded cloth wrapped around the body of each baby, to the wonderful little caps worn upon there heads with a tiny swirl of hair falling from the cap onto the forehead, to the back of each baby you will see a delicate bow tied just below the shawl draped around there shoulders, you will also see that there are traces of the gold gilt finish that would have many years ago adorned this very special double Vesta Case, they are joined together at the elbow and have 2 separate Vesta compartments to the bottom of the body on both babies you will see a hinged opening, this opens to reveal the compartment where you would have kept the matches, to the base of this Novelty Vesta Case is the strike plate, its an absolutely stunning design, this i would say is an extremely rare Double Vesta Case, the only hallmark i can find are the makers mark C G, this wouldn\'t be unusual in pieces commissioned , it would have been sent directly to the customer once crafted by the silversmith so by passing the Assay office, this has been tested and is solid silver, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a wealthy Victorian Gentleman and used daily in a time when things were so very different, this would have been to large to be placed inside a pocket, i believe this would have sat pride of place on a Gentleman\'s desk and used for not only lighting a cigarette but also for lighting the candles needed in the evenings, this will add something very special to any collection , you will not see another like this on the market, being a double vesta case of this wonderful Novelty form is extremely rare,this is just so very tactile and special once you pick it up you wont want to put it down, you will not find another double vesta case of this form on the market, its so very rare

Swaddling is an age-old practice of wrapping infants in blankets or similar cloths so that movement of the limbs is tightly restricted. Swaddling bands were often used to further restrict the infant. Swaddling fell out of favor in the 17th century
