In the late 1800s, every American coastal city lived under the threat of a foreign man o\' war slipping into its harbor, leveling its guns, and demanding the capitulation of the city. The US Coastal Artillery Corps (CAC) was formed in 1901 to protect American cities, harbors, and military installations from seaborne attack using heavy cannons in well protected emplacements. CAC gun commanders wore a distinctive crossed cannon barrel chevron on the sleeves of their M-1902 dress blue uniforms to denote their qualification. This US Army Pre-WW1 COAST ARTILLERY GUN COMMANDER M-1902 DRESS BLUE CHEVRON is in near mint condition, with only some light scattered surface mothing evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the chevron is in near mint shape, with no other damage to the crisp dark blue wool construction.
