AN ORIGINAL PAIR OF1872 McCLELLAN SADDLE\'S BRUSH AND HORSESHOE POUCH FOR THE POMMEL OF THE SADDLE AS USED DURING THE SO CALLED \"CUSTER PERIOD\"

THIS IS A VERY SCARCE POMMEL BAG MADEBY ARSENAL BY EXTENSIVELY MODIFYING THE CIVIL WAR 1859 McCLELLAN SADDLE BAGS LEFT IN STORE AFTER THE WAR. THEY WERE ONLY USED FOR A FEW YEARS AND MOST OF THEM WERE USED IN THE HARSH Environment OF THE WESTUNTIL THEY WERE UNUSABLE AND THEN DISCARDED.

THISSET IS IN REMARKABLE CONDITION. ALTHOUGH THE LEATHER, DATING BACK TOTHECIVIL WAR SHOWS ITS AGE THE BAGS ARESOUND AND CAN BE HANDLED. THERE IS A \"US\" ARSENAL MARKING ON THE TOP STRAP.

THEY WILL DISPLAY SUPERBLY ON THE POMMEL OF A1872 OR 1874McCLELLAN SADDLE.

THIS SET HAS NO REPAIR BUT DOES SHOW WEAR AND CRAZING ALONG WITH STRESS POINTS IN PARTICULAR OVER THE POMMEL STRAPS.

NOTE THAT THE 1872 McCLELLAN SADDLE OR THE SADDLE STAND ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS sale.
