Addressed to \"Cap\'t Luis F. Emits(?)\" of the 54th Reg\'t Mass Volunteers, at Port Royal, SC. Sent from Salem Mass Dec. 13th, 1863 and received on Dec. 25th. Letter is from his mother and discusses not only home life but the effects of the \"Presidents Great Proclamation\" and the effect it will have in a few months on the mind of the Southern people! Envelope carries a US 3 cent stamp (cancelled) as well as a Salem Mass Dec 14 postal stamp. Letter is nearly 3 1/2 pages in length. Envelope measures 5 x 3 inches and was cut open at one end. In very good condition.
