US Army troops of WW2 often painted their helmets with unit insignias for identification, and to foster a sense of camaraderie with their brothers in arms. This US WW2 6TH ARMY + NAME PAINTED FIXED BALE M-1 STEEL COMBAT HELMET is in very good condition, with two dents at the top left crown, three small spot dents at the upper back crown,a few small spot dents at the front left crown, a small spot dent and some white paint spotting at the right crown, a bit of white paint spotting at the upper front/right crown, some scattered patina and scratching around the exterior, moderate patina in a number \"8\" shape at the interior top left crown, some brownish patina at the interior back right crown, some scattered brownish soiling to the chinstraps, some light patina to the brass chinstrap buckles, some widening to the \"hooks\" of the left chinstrap buckle such that it no longer accepts the mating \"point\", and with some scattered age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough steel construction, which retains approximately 85% of its original corked OD exterior finish. Most interestingly, it bears a 6 pointed star hand painted in brownish white at the front crown, likely representing the US 6th Army, whose early patch carried a similar white star in the middle of its design. The US 6th Army landed on Leyte in October 1944, fulfilling General MacArthur\'s \"I Shall Return\" pledge. All the battles in the Pacific, including the massive struggle for Okinawa, were dwarfed by the 6th Army\'s grueling Philippine campaign of 1944-45, which saw 10 divisions in relentless combat in the dense jungles of Leyte, the rugged mountains of Luzon, and house to house fighting in Manila. The helmet also bears the name \"ANDERSON\" stenciled in brownish white across the front crown, and carries the name \"ANDERSON\" faintly stenciled in brownish white along the top crown. It boasts fully intact fixed bales, sports the original sewn khaki web chinstraps with an early \"raised bar\" point and \"sharp\" hooks brass closure buckle, and is stamped with the heat lot number \"386C\" at the underside of the front lip. The helmet is complete with its original US WW2 M-1 Liner in very good condition, with two small chips in the back lip, some brownish and bluish soiling at the top crown, some scattered scratching around the exterior, some scattered brownish soiling to the interior suspension, some brownish soiling to the nape strap, some drying and scuffing to the front leather portion of the sweatband, some dusting at the interior crown, and with some scattered age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the liner is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it carries the matching name \"ANDERSON\" thrice stenciled in white along the top and side crowns, boasts a fully intact khaki HBT interior suspension, and is complete with the original nape strap and sweatband. Interestingly, the sweatband is hand marked with the numbers \"807-14-98\" at the right back leather portion. The liner sports early unpainted metal \"A\" washers around the inside, bears the traditional \"F\" in a shield maker\'s logo of Firestone at the interior crown, and the set is a fine example of a very rare, original US WW2 6TH ARMY + NAME PAINTED FIXED BALE M-1 STEEL COMBAT HELMET.
