US American Eagle Head Presentation Grade M 1902 Officers Sword Saber Gold Gilt:

I\'ve only seen a few of these, and some call it a \"General Officer\'s Sword\" but according to the collectors guide book \"American Swords\" by Stuart C. Mowbray, this is the Presentation Grade version of the American model 1902 all officer\'s sword. There is another for sale here on right now. That one has its scabbard (which is quite a nice piece itsself) and it does not have the damave that this one has near the point. But it looks to me that the engraving and gold gilding isn\'t in as good a condition as mine. And that one for sale for $1,500. You can see by the pictures where I have it side by side with an ordinary 1902, every inch of it is different. All metal parts of the hilt are decorated in high reliefe with floral patterns. The eagle head pommel has red glass eyes set into it. The hilt braches are recurved where they meet the counter guard. And there is an extra iner branch that is divided with a center bar. The quillon is almost twice as thick as the other 02. I\'m not sure what kind of metal the hilt is made of. It\'s not nickel plated steel. A magnet is NOT attracted to it. All 1902s have well engraved blades. But this one is awsome. The engraving is much more intracate, and there is gold all over it. I had a hard time getting the light right in the pics. I have more pics if requested. What\'s strange is that these usualy have very pronounced maker\'s marks on the ricaso. This one has the star with the word proved in it on one side. But the other side of the ricaso is blank. As is that of the other one I mentioned that\'s for sale for $1.500. But what seems most strange to is that the blade is wider and thicker than the normal 1902. This sword was never intended to see the battle field. But it heavier, stronger and seems more battle worthy than the other one. Just a higher quality sword all around. Unfortunatly, the nickel plating has failed near the piont, and there is some rusting as seen in one of the pics. Overall length is 37 1/2\", blade is 32\".
