This is a very nicehard coveredition of USGS Bulletin 1256, “Geology of the Oregon Buttes Area, Sweetwater, Sublette, and Fremont Counties, Southwestern Wyoming.” Published in 1969, this consists of the 60-page book and both of the original map sheets. One of the is a huge FULL COLOR GEOLOGIC MAP OVER FOUR FEET WIDE! The other is a stratigraphic column showing parts of the formations that containfossil plants and animalsincludingfossil turtle shells!The hard cover binding is very high quality with gold gilt lettering along the spine. This is made to last.

The area covered is about 550 square miles! Rocks in this area range in age from Precambrian through Tertiary. Somegolddeposits are located within the area and the locations are provided in the text.Petrified woodhas also been found and one fairly precise location is given.Uraniumis also present just to the north of the map area, at a location mentioned in the text. This thing’s got something for everybody! What a great area to explore! This book provides a good overview of the geology of the area and really benefits from the several good photographs in the text. Don’t miss this one!
