VERY RARE SAMPSON MORDAN CAST SILVER TRAY CARD SALVER HM1894 CHERUBS ANGELS 199G:

This superb quality Victorian silver trinket pin card tray measures 195mm (7.5\") x 150mm (6\") x 18mm (.75\") and weighs an impressive 199 grams or over 6 troy ounces. It is fully hallmarked for solid English sterling silver 1894 with the makers mark for the famous silversmith Sampson Mordan. As you would expect from Mordan the quality is brilliant with the central vignette decorated with two cherubs or Reynolds angels looking at a butterfly with an additional 4 vignettes featuring idillic rural scenes with a Hanau style rococo boarder with floral swags. Very unusually for Mordan it is cast silver which not only gives it a quality feel, it is also a lot more expensive to produce than the pressed out silver trays typical of the late Victorian era. It is in good antique condition with no repairs, a good colour and plenty of detail to the casting. A very rare cast silver tray from one of the best makers of the period sold with .
