MY PARENTS LIVED IN CHINA IN THE EARLY 40\'S. AT THAT TIME, THEY PURCHASED MANY FINE , ANTIQUE, CHINESE TEXTILES. THIS PIECE WAS PURCHASED AT THAT TIME AND HAS BEEN TENDERLY STORED IN A TRUNK, ONLY EMERGING NOW AND THEN TO BE APPRECIATED, ALL THESE YEARS.
The stitch, I believe, is the \"Pekinese Stitch\" . The stitches on this piece are very, very, small and fine. The cricket is wonderful! His body must have some padding, because it is rounded, not flat. The piece is old, probably from the Qing Dynasty, but I am no expert in dating Chinese antiques. This is only my guess from my research. DO ZOOM IN AND TAKE A CLOSE LOOK. YOU WILL SEE THE GREAT CONDITION . This type of purse was folded over a lady\'s belt. The cricket part would fold over. The bottom part is a small draw string purse.
