Here is a gorgeous example of a handmade Vintage 1930\'s Siam Niello 12 Section Panel Bracelet, featuring Mekkala, the Goddess of Lightning, Ravana the Demon King, God of Thunder and other mythological figures. The panels are a rectangle shape, each measuring 15/16\" by 9/16\", with fancy filigree work in each corner and a fancy marquis shaped Niello center, and finely detailed figures on each. Each panel is connected by a hinge, and all are in good working order.
Siam Niello jewelry dates back to the 4th Century B.C. when this jewelry was used by persons of high rank as their most treasured personal ornaments. The art of Niello has almost become extinct, and only attempted by highly skilled artisans. Niello, derived from the Latin word Nigellum, which means black, has been referred to as enamel, but it is actually a black metallic amalgam, combining the metals silver, copper, lead and sulfur, which is applied to engraved designs, on smooth surfaces of Sterling Silver. The figures used in the engravings represent ancient mythological characters, depicting a story, rich in Siamese history. Most of these pieces were made between the 1930\'s and the 1970\'s, and the pieces stating Made in Siam, were made prior to 1939, and again, between 1945 and 1949.
The bracelet measures 7\" with the clasp closed. The bracelet is 15/16\" wide, and it weighs approximately 37 Grams. The bracelet is Hallmarked \"Made in Siam~Sterling\", on the push bar clasp, and I believe this dates back to the 1930\'s.
The bracelet is in very good vintage condition, with minor signs of scuffing and wear, from age and use. The bracelet has some very light patina, and you may want to polish it. Please scroll down and see all 24 pictures.
