1936 Singer Featherweight 221-1 portable sewing machine, case and attachmentsOriginally purchased for a Kirkland, Illinois farm girl\'s high school graduation in 1936.She graduated from Univ. Of Ill in 1940 becoming a home Economics Teacher in DeKalb, Ill high school and later one of the first WAVE officers in the US Navy during WWII. This machine was used actively during those experiences and then the rest of her years sewing entire wardrobes for herself and daughter, items for sale in church bazaars, dresses for daughters 4 bridesmaids, household drapes for three homes.
It has always been kept in good repair and is ready for continued action. The original manual is included as well as all of the attachments and accessories. The original case (made from covered wood with mitered corners) and inserted shelf to hold attachments, is still sturdy but shows some cosmetic wear especially at corners and handle. See photos.
There is also some wearing of the gold painted filigree on front edge of the fabric plate. See photo.
This machine has been a much loved, and traveled workhorse for two generations of women and is ready to march forward into more projects.
