This vintage sterling silver Hopi pin / pendant was crafted by Manuel Hoyungowa, a highly esteemed member of the Hopi Nation. Manuel\'s work often includes Hopi ceremonial figures. This pin has a unique Kokopelli type figure spreading seed. The figure has a tail and belly which is different from the typical Kokopelli figure - possibly a mouse? The pin measures 1 3/8\" across and weighs 14.73 grams. This pin is signed with Mr. Hoyungowa\'s \"Hogans on a Plateau\" hallmark. It is in great vintage condition.Manuel Hoyungowa (ca.1953-d. 2011) was in many respects a Prophet and a Religious Leader for the Hopi Nation. He was also dedicated to his work as an artisan. Taught by his uncle, Preston Monongye, Manuel Hoyungowa was a multiple award winner. Manuel is the author of the “Cry of the Earth Statement,” a Hopi prophecy message Hoyungowa delivered to the United Nations General Assembly in 1962. Due to his standing in the Hopi community his artfully handcrafted works are highly collectable.
