VINTAGE Soviet Russian Porcelain Ukrainian USSR FIGURINE Cossack Polonne:
$101.41

This is a beautiful Vintage Soviet Russian figurine titled \"May night\". The figure is circa 1950 - 1970.

The figurine was made back in time when Ukraine was a part of Soviet Union. Figurine made in the Polonnoe Factory of Art Ceramics which was founded in 1895, became government owned in 1956. Products are made by a molding method. They no longer do mass production and only take special orders today.

The figurine is titled May Night (Майская ночь). A romantic moment is depicted as Levko, the young Cossack, puts his arm around his beloved Hanna as she, in turn, lays her head upon his shoulder. The scene is from the otherwise quite spooky short story \"May Night\" from Nikolai Gogol\'s \"Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka\", that was made into an opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Original design by Ukrainian sculptor and ceramicist Oksana Leontievna Zhnikrup(the wife of Vladislav Ivanovich Shcherbina).

It is marked with Polonne Factory back stamp

This is a large figurine. It stands 11\" tall and it is 4 1/2\" by 4 1/2\" at the base.

The figure is in mint condition - it has no chips and cracks.

Figurine \"May Night\" can be your Declaration of love, which is never late. Looking at this beautiful image, not for a moment doubt that there is so much good and all dreams and wishes will come true. It is only necessary, as this beautiful, stopping in joyful anticipation and genuinely love life.

It is a truly beautiful vintage piece that will be a great addition to any collection

Polonnoe is an ancient city in the Khmelnitsky region in western Ukraine. Originally it was built as a castle fortress on the banks of the Khomora river. Its recorded history dates 998. After passing through many reigns and much travail, Polonne\'s status as village was finally settled in 1938, when it became a city.

Well before, in the 1880s, the first porcelain-faience production occurred on the Polonsky estate.

In 1895, an \"artel\" (the future Polonsky factory of artistic ceramics founded in 1956) was opened that became a significant porcelain works.

Artistic ceramics have been made there since 1895. Many unique and beautiful pieces are on display in the Khmelnytsky Regional Museum.
