VINTAGE US MILITARY CAVALRY MCCLELLAN SADDLE STIRRUPS - MARKED - R I A 1916 A:

This pair of stirrups is a great piece of history. The bottom of one is marked - R I A (Rock Island Arsenal) 1916 with an \'A\' under 1916. The war was in full swing and these stirrups have had some use - would love to know the stories they hold. They are doubled leather and front marked - US. The leather shows scuffs and marks of use. the wooden stirrups are starting to crack. I am a life long horse woman and would not have any concerns about riding with these. The wood cracks are on the outside and are solid on the inside. Stirrups weigh 2 1/4 pound each.
As is expected with item over 100 years old, there is wear to the stitching and the stirrups look slightly different in size - maybe it was the way the rider rode. I\'m sure they were used in all kinds of weather and terrain. I am out of picture room so if you would like another view of some part, I will email it to you.
I am at the age where I have to part with my collectables. I am hoping another collector or reenactment person would like these.
