VTG 1920s ANTIQUE GERMAN PRIMITIVE FOLK ART CANDY CONTAINER, FIGURAL BUFFALO:
$350.00

This listing is for an amazing antique candy container of a shaggy buffalo! He is made from composite over wood, and is in remarkable condition, with a few small glue repairs (tail and ears). He has the most wonderful metal horns! His wood legs are sturdy and NOT loose, and his head, which comes out so that you can reach the candy inside, fits nice and tight. He has two small glass eyes, and is covered in a flocking which gives him a remarkably life like look! The area around his tail is a bit shiny due to the repair, but the repairs are good, and not really noticeable. He is a nice size, standing about 5 1/2\" tall and is about 6 1/2\" long. The Erzgebirge region of Germany, where this fellow was made, was (and still is) home to folk artisans who made some of the most wonderful holiday decorations and candy containers. They were shipped all over the world, and are highly prized by collectors because of the hand made quality, and their charm. The 1920\'s was the height of the trade for this type of quality candy container; by the 1930\'s the Great Depression had hit, and by the late 1930\'s WWII had started. During the War years the Erzgebirge region folks didn\'t make these wonderful containers any more.
