An interesting itemobtained many years ago here in Washington, DC from theestate of the late Grace Tully, FDRs personal Secretary here at the White House during his Presidency. Item is an original pewter letter openner(measures about 5 1/2" in length as shown) in very good condition with the "Official Seal of the President" at TOP of openner produced at VAL-KILL industries (item does not show the VAL-KILL stamp but from what I understand on the 1936 pewter Christmas gift from President Roosevelt .. none of these 200 letter openners were stamped..at least none I have heard of orseen..) Its 100% authentic and stand behind this itemforever without conditions .

. Research shows this was one of only 200 official authorizeditems commissioned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his official Christmas gift to his executive staff in 1936 at the White House and far far fewer are likely still accounted for today. You cancontact the official FDR Presidential library in Hyde Park, NY as well as the reference guide on Presidential Christmas cards and gifts authored by Mary Seeley : Season's Greetings from the White House. This actual Presidential Christmas gift is referenced on page 36 and pictured as well on the same page in this well known Presidential Christmas guide book.

Its far rarer (manytimes so) than the official FDR Presidential Christmas cards that are now being offer up to $1,500 or more by collectors on ? as recent as last week !

This was Ms. Tully's "personal Christmas gift" from FDR as its shows some use likely by her while working in the White House as well making it pretty darn neat ! .. A great piece of Presidential history and a very rare historical item !
