Vintage Art Deco Minaudiere powder compact. Gold silver rubies and black lacquer / enamel. Made in France by Van Cleef and Arpels circa 1930\'s.

Measurements: Length: a little under 3 1/2 inches (8.5cm). Width 2 1/2 inches (6cm).

Rectangular powder compace. The top is decorated in a pattern called Daisy, which is a black background with gold flowers, with engraved detail. A trio or rubies add to the luxury and artistic design. The black background was called lacquer by the people we got this from in Paris, but it looks like enamel to me.

A long silver thumbpiece lifts the lid, inside which is a mirror. The hinged bottom of the inside is in black lacquer/enamel underneath which (inside), is the powder compartment. The black enamel lifts at a right angle to the top lid.

As with all Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry and objects of virtu, the quality of the workmanship is extraordinary and extremely luxurious.

Marks: there are a number of marks on the box: a French hallmark alongside Van Cleef and Arpels; the number 76723; A diamond-shaped lozenge, which is the form of a French maker\'s mark; another serial number - 7831.

Condition: minor wear to the black material. The metal can do with a cleaning. Mirror in very good shape.
