19TH CENTURY CHINESE EXPORT CLOCK FOR WESTERN MARKET

For your consideration, from a Private West Coast Collection, Canada, is this superb, very fine, extremely rare 19th Century gilt copper alloy clock.

Impeccably constructed, this piece is not single cast, but hand-tooled, the Dragon handles, separate pieces which have been added after the fact, in the correct style of traditional bronze dore metalworks. The traditional chinese ruyi border around the neck, so finely etched. The design is very ornate, Rococo inspired.

This clock was likely exported for the American market. The movement is likely original and very strong. I have not been able to open the clock, but I assume it\'s a mid 19th century American movement.

This clock was likely a one-of-a-kind commission, I have not been able to find a single comparable example so know it is quite rare. You will be thoroughly impressed, a solid heavily cast timepiece.

Measures only 9 inches (23 cm) in height. This is a very small and fine clockwork.
