Exceptionally fine quality, rare and early Orientalist oil painting depicting figures (Ottoman?) on horseback hunting in a landscape. A tiger or cougar is attacking the horse that seats the rider in the foreground, whilst in the distance we see further riders on horseback. The painting dates to the late 18th century and is most likely of French authorship. Superb quality and detailing throughout the painting, especially to the startled horse and rider in the foreground. Very rare subject matter and in this large scale size, a most remarkable and interesting painting. Condition report:
The painting has been relined and conserved to a high standard. Some light scuffing to the surface and signs of previous restoration. Frames:
