A magnificent Louis XV ormolu gilded bronze and white marble ornate mounted mantle clock by Julien Le Roy (1686-1759),\"the most skillful horologer in France, possible in Europe\" according to his contemporaries.
This museum quality,breathtakingclock with exquisite, possibly unique case is a perfect example of supreme collaborative skills of the 18th century Parisian clock and case makers to create an item of sumptuous luxury for anextensive clientele included many members of Europe\'s noble and royal families.
The beautiful case decorated overall with floral and foliate scrolls depicts cupid or a putto showing a cherub or baby atlas holding the map. The white enamel dialset with Roman numerals for the hours and twelve outer Arabic numerals for the five minute intervals, with a fine pair of Louis XV style gilt hands, signed \"Julien Leroy\" and \"A Paris\".The 8 day movement striking the half hours on a bell.The back of the movement marked \"595\", \"V6\" and stamped \"Medailles Dor\", \"Japy Frere\". Its original glass door protects the movement and allows to see pendulum swinging.
The clock sits on four circular and adjustable giltbronze feet which facilitates balancing. Measures approximately 14\" (35.5 cm) high, 9 1/2\" (24 cm) wide and 6\" (15 cm) deep.
