This rare, antique French chocolate mold of Pere Noel (Santa Claus, Father Christmas, St. Nicholas, Sinterklaas) was purchased several years ago from well-known private chocolate mold collector Paul Schwanka for nearly $400. It came from his personal collection and had been purchased by him during a collecting trip in France and Belgium.It has been extremely well cared for over the years and is one of the very heavy early molds that aren\'t commonly seen or available to collectors these days. I am forced to sell it to help cover the costs of my recent heart surgery and am therefore offering it at a reduced price.This wonderful mold features Pere Noel wearing a traditional tall pointed hat and long fur robes. He is carrying a basket of toys and goodies on his back while holding a doll in one arm and a toy horn and ball in the other.The mold was made by Matfer of Paris, France and bears their logo on the reverse. Matfer was founded in 1814 and still makes chocolates today. I have been told by several experts that this mold dates to the 1910s-20s.The mold is 7 inches tall and 3.75 inches wide and has a wonderful patina on the outside. The inside is bright and shiny with excellent tinning and is still suitable for molding chocolates should you desire to do so. It would also be perfect for making hand painted papier mache or chalkware Christmas figures.A truly wonderful item for the antique chocolate mold enthusiast or Santa Claus collector.
