Up for sale is thisRARE Antique Wet Plate Photographer’s Posing Chair c1860–1880.The wood has not been restored and has lots of patina and scuffing. There is a vertical crack in the wood block that holds the back in place just as found but it still holds as designed. The legs are a little loose as originally found but I have sat on it many times. The arm of the chair moves up (32 inches high point) and down (26 inches low point) to adjust to the person that is posed on it. The top of the seat is 19 inches from the floor. There is a metal vertical brace on the part that connects the arm and chair that is original to when I found it.
I purchased this chair in Canton, Texas 30+ years ago from a salvage dealer that stated he got it when cleaning out an attic of a old home in Houston, Texas. When I found the chair, it had only tatters of light maroon covering and a couple of maroon fringe tassels. Only three brass tacks also remained. The original bottom webbing was in shreds but the horse hair padding on the arm and seat was still intact. I replaced the web bottom with appropriate webbing and recovered the chair and arm with maroon velvet and matching maroon fringe tassels and matched the brass tacks that were original to the chair.
