Very nice 1770s Richard Meach Georgian cast sterling silver sugar tongs:
$54.99

We are listing these very nicely decorated 1770s Georgian feather edge cast sterling silver sugar tongs which appear to be by the London silversmith Richard Meach. The tongs are marked inside one arm with a lion passant, and inside the other arm with a slightly distorted RM maker\'s mark. This mark appears to be the one registered in 1774 by London silversmith Richard Meach (see page 170 of Grimwade\'s London Goldsmiths 1697-1837). The tongs are over 5.5 inches long, weigh 1.1 ounces, are very nicely decorated with wonderful feathered bowls, and are in very good condition (a monogram may have been erased off the outside of the bow, and there is a tiny repair on one arm). Almost all surviving cast tongs have been repaired (due to their fragile designs), but this repair is very minor. Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself (the tongs have not been professionally polished). There are no examples of Meach\'s tongs (cast or otherwise) on the silversugartongs website, so this is a rarely seen pair.
