VICTORIAN LIBRARY LOT

This sale is for a collection of 62 leather and decoratively bound books, most from the 1800s and early 1900s. Provenance: We recently acquired these books from the estate of a Boston-area professor. (The books had been in his family home for three generations.) The collection does include some orphaned volumes; however, there are also some valuable titles in this mix that are worth more than just their appearance(e.g., an 1857 printing of Hyperion: A Romance by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ). highlights of this collection include...A complete three-volume set entitled The Letters of Queen Victoria : A Selection from her Majesty\'s Correspondence Between The Years 1837 and 1861 by Arthur Christopher Benson and Viscount Esher The Minor Tactics of Chess by Franklin Young and Edwin Howell (Boston: Little, Brown, & Company, 1913)Books and My Food: Original Recipes with Literarty Quotations for Every Day of the Year (turn-of-the-century cookbook) by Elisabeth Luther Cary and Annie M. Jones (New York: Moffat, Yard & Co., 1906)The Man Without A Country by Edward Everett Hale (Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1902)The Children by Alice Meynell (John Lane: The Bodley Head, 1897)The White Company by A. Conan Doyle (New York: Thomas Y. Crowell, 1891)Books and Characters by Lytton Strachey (London: Chatto & Windus, 1929)A Children’s Garden by Robert Louis Stevenson (Philadelphia: Henry Altemus Company, 1921)and many more…Please note that this collection contains a German-language set. Jack Rosttlaand, published in St. Louis in 1912). Also, one of the books, a decoratively bound Folio Society printing of A Memoir of the Forty-Five was printed in the 1950s, but complements this collection so nicely that we decided to include it.To buy these titles individually would be a significant investment. We\'re happy to ship the entire (heavy!) collection free of charge anywhere within the United States (Media Mail with Delivery Confirmation).

These Books Are in Fair to Very Good Condition.
As one would expect with this old a collection, condition varies from book to book. Some show age-appropriate wear to bindings. Some of the leather-bound books are chipped and worn along spines. A few books have cracked hinges are small splits along joints. Still, a very handsome collection for display.
