made for a officer of the british royal navy. it dates to around 1850
The BL length is 68cm. and the overall length is 82cm. I believe it belonged to a junior officerit must be assumed that the sword was made up to definite private specifications given by a naval officer. A sword embellished to show the owner\'s own service.
The hilt is beautiful and features aVictoriancrown and fowled anchor. with a wire bound black fish skin grip and doves head pommel for a warrant officer. to the back is a folding guard which still works perfectly
It was made by BATTEN & ADAMS FOREST. DEVONPORT
Engraved with the Victorian crown and anchor. with the makers name present at the base.
