Vintage J.C. Buttre engraving of Civil War Union Lt. General Phil H Sheridan. It indicates that this image was entered by an Act of Congress in 1865. There may be an authentic signature on the bottom, but I am not an expert and cannot say that with 100% accuracy. Other engravings from Buttre during this period have authentic signatures. The signature in this engraving is a deep black and doesn\'t have signs of engraving marks when magnified as does the rest on the engraved image. Overall, the print is in very good condition with only one tiny \"foxing\" spot and a slight flattened crease under the glass. The backing paper has torn away in areas, but it is just backing paper. This engraving measures 19\" x 15\". The scenes surrounding the corners are of the Defeat of Rosser\'s Cavalry at Cedar Creek. Nice vintage Civil War collectible.
