Offered today is an antique diamond and emerald 3-stone ring by Ryrie Brothers of Toronto, with inception in 1854. Ryrie was was absorbed by well-known large jeweler Birks in 1904, but continued to trade under the name of Ryrie Brothers until 1921 when it became \"Ryrie-Birks.\" So, from the hallmark of \"Ryrie Bros\" we see inside this ring, we can accurately state that it was made before 1921 and the inception of Ryrie-Birks. We actually date it, from the style of the ring, to the late 1800s to very early 1900s.
This petite ring contains two Belcher-set diamonds and a synthetic emerald, all about 2.6 - 2.7 mm, for a total of approximately .25 ctw in gemstones. The emerald has a little chip on the table, visible under a loupe. The diamonds are graded as H/I color and SI1 clarity, by our experienced estate jeweler.
You will note what looks like a \"surface crack\" in the gold on the underside of the ring. This does NOT carry through to the sides or top of the ring (see photos of both sides)--it is just that--a superficial crack in the gold on the underside which does not affect wear. A jeweler could heat the gold on the underside to remove/repair the crack if it bothered you. The gems are secure in the mounting.
The face measures 3/8\" side to side (the gemstones). The ring is clearly marked Ryrie Bros 18k in raised lettering. The ring weighs 2.1 grams and is a size 4.5, and can be sized by any competent jeweler. This ring is in good vintage condition, especially considering its age.
