At the time of the original listing, we are in the process of listing a large number of antique and vintage items purchased in England. These items are an eclectic mix including gold and sterling jewelry, and many unique, and in some cases, one of a kind items, in wood, brass, and iron, and other materials as well.At that time, wehad a variety ofother antique Mauchline ware listings, all purchased on the most recent, oron prior trips to England.

Among these items are quite a variety of hallmarked sterling and gold pieces, including a number of gentleman\'s items. At the time of the listing of this vesta, Iwill also be listing a heavy hallmarked double for use with a pocket watch and vesta.

In my opinion, the simple unadorned lines of this vesta add a touch of elegance. It has not been monogrammed.

On the inside lip beneath the cover there are a full set of English hallmarks on the back. The outside of the lid has the silver purity mark and date letter only.The hallmarks I identified using \"Jackson\'s Hallmarks\" are:

Makers Mark -\"S & M Co\" in an oblongcartouche. This marked was attributed the S. Mordan (i.e. Sampson Morday), London. The comment area for this maker noted \"very collectible small pieces\"
Town/ Assay Mark - The Leopard of London.
Silver purity mark - The lion passant indicating sterling silver purity
Date letter -lower casedin the font styleand cartouche style for London, Cycle XXIII, 1919

The bottom of the vesta has a built-in striker as seen in one of the photos.

The photos are close-ups. The size relative to a ruleris shown in the photos. The vesta is 1 1/2\"wide and 1 7/8\" high. The total weight of the sterling buckle is24.15 grams as seen on our jewelry scale.

Condition

Thevesta is overall in very good condition, with not dent or dings.As found, the vesta was mostly polished /bright. There was onetiny spots of heavier tarnish on the hallmarked side, and two on the other, all three near the bottom. These mostly polished out, but on the photos, you can still slightly see them. Bear in mind that these closeup photos with the bright light of our light box are between three and five times actual size. On the actual vesta, these spots are seen only on very close inspection, if at all. I am confident you will be satisfied with the condition,and we will 100% guarantee your satisfaction with the condition of the vesta.
