This listing is for a gorgeous square-bodied American butter churn. I would date this piece back to either 1920s or 30s. I love the size and hefty, sturdy feel of this butter churn! Besides the 4 qt. relief on the glass and on the bottom 6-K562 and that number letter combination means that it could be a Dazey piece. The metal shows some aging and slight rust patina. Keep in mind that I have not cleaned itbecause I\'m not an expert in such matters; although,I am sure you could bring back more of its former glory if you so desired. The gearmechanism is in great working condition with no hesitation at all.
There are some marks on the jar itself which indicate to me that it might have been held in place against something to make it easier for one person to make the butter. The lid has an area where air would come in and aid in the whipping of the cream into butter then, once the butter was made, that same area would be used to pour out the buttermilk and pour in cold water to rinse the butter. The cold water rinse would be done several times in order to make sure the butter was completely free of milk in order to keep it fresher longer. Sometimes salt would be added to butter to help keep it usable. This churn uses 2 wood paddles instead of the usual four. There are no chips or crack on any of the working parts.
The churn is quite heavy and weighs well over 6 lbs. If there is any overcharge on shipping I will refund the money back to you. If the churn is locally purchased the shipping is free then arrangements can be made for it to be picked up.
