This is a text book example of a cast iron Wagner Ware lamb cake mold that is starting to become harder and harder to find now. Wagner were the only onesto use super fine grains of sand to produce their lamb cake castings.The result, a high quality finish that is nearly glass smooth to the touch. These are slightly larger than the Griswold No 866 mold and just not as common. There are no chips, cracks or repairs.
This item was stripped down to bare metal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. This process insures the removal all residue from previous use making it safe to use once more. One round of seasoning at 450 degrees with Crisco for several hours. The item is photographed in very bright light to highlight fine details. Under these lighting conditions, item may take on a brown color but will be much darker under normal light.
