Rescued from a dark and dusty basement in Western Massachusetts this Emerson
table radio has been transformed into an attractive and stylish radio well-suited to
be featured in your collection.The cabinet, manufactured by the renown clock-maker Ingraham and known for its
use of striking grained veneers and contrasting inlays, was completely refinished.
A crack had formed in the outside concentric circle and it was repaired and stabilized.
What remained of the finish was removed, the grain filled, and multiple coats of lacquer
were applied, sanded, polished and buffed. The cabinet measurements are 11 1/4 X8 X 6.But this is not just another pretty face. After 75+ years many of the original capacitors
are functioning in a failure mode, either failed and causing symptoms or likely to fail in
the not to distant future. These capacitors, both electrolytic and wax/paper, were replaced
with modern equivalents. Tubes were checked, moving parts lubricated, and adjustments
made to produce a working radio which picks up stations across the full spectrum of the
AM band. Even though there remain many 75+ year old components, steps like these
provide a better chance that the radio will perform reliably for some time to come.Your new radio has been wrapped in cushioning material and double-boxed as a
protection during shipment.
