Transkei was the first of the African \"homelands\" set aside by the old regime in South Africa starting in 1976. Shunned by the international community, it was diplomatically isolated and only recognized by the Pretoria government that had established it. The Transkei Defense Force removed the Prime Minister from power in 1987, and then overthrew his successor as well. Transkei formed an alliance with the African National Congress against South Africa, and provided a safe base for ANC activity until Nelson Mandela and the ANC came to power in 1994. Transkei was then absorbed back into the new South Africa. During its brief 18 year history, Transkei Defense Force troops were issued a distinctive camouFlage field uniform modeled after the South African \"32 Battalion\" patterns. This pair of Vintage 1980s TRANSKEI SOUTH AFRICAN CAMO COVERALLS are in excellent condition, with some fading to the upper middle front, a bit of whitish spot soiling at the middle right front waist, the back right underarm, and the middle right back waist, some scattered loose threading to most of the buttons throughout, some light overall wrinkling, and with some light scattered age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the coveralls are in excellent shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the crisp 40% cotton / 60% polyester construction. Most interestingly, they retain a great amount of the vibrant Transkei camouFlage colors, sport elasticized cuffs and waistband, and carry the original \"Sun Manufacturers\" maker\'s label at the inside neck. They are a Size 42, boast all of the original khaki plastic buttons throughout, and are stamped \"IMPORTED BY OMEGA WEAPONS SYSTEMS / TUCSON, AZ / MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA\" in blue along the interior.
