For your consideration is this sensational vintage hand carved Ongchoma Initiation kachina doll by Hopi artisan Leonard Taho II, circa 1993.

This gorgeous kachina doll was hand carved out of top grade cottonwood and hand painted with dyes made from natural materials off the reservation. This one is ready to step into action and abounds with details from every angle!

Natural moss accents the headdress that is fully painted with feather details. Detailed sashing, colorful boot bands and a Turquoise Jacla necklace are just a few of these amazing elements that will catch your eye on this Kachina. With hints of the natural cottonwood showing, Leonard also painted the Kachina with a vibrant palette of white, green, red and black while touches of ochre and Turquoise enhance the Katsina. This vintage and expertly crafted doll is a masterpiece of Leonard\'s skill. Created in 1993, Leonard has signed the sculpture and included the title, Ongchoma. The wood carving measures about 12-1/4\" tall and stands on an irregular shaped 4\" base. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

* The Ongchoma Kachina is present at initiations and sympathizes with children who are about to be punished. He carries the flat paddles in his right hand but he also touches them with the mano (left hand) to make them strong so they will not feel any pain. *
