4\" in diameter translucent alabaster on a bronze lion circular stand, alabaster is a soft stone generally moh 4.0 ideal for carving it has been used for thousands of years, because of its softness anyone puchasing this will want to not handle it much because picking it up and setting it on the bronze can mark it. There are already a few very minor marks as is they really do not detract much. There are no chunks or chips out of it only minor touch marks. This is natural stone it does and should contain fisure cracks, it has not been dropped or roughly handled, it can be polished using wax and shammy cloth in my opinion this works best, on the underside there is a round discolored mark this is from the turning that made it round and is normal it is how it was affixed to be spun for shaping. It looks very nice in a window on the sunny side of the house the daylight as backdrop will go through it and give it a glow that allows the internal swirls to be seen. I cannot acuratly date this item, i believe it belongs in the antique category but i find no marks to date it. Personally i like this item very much i will wait for the right buyer or keep it so the price will at no point come down on this item.
