Up for offers today is a vintage / antique coiled footed basket / bowl with leather trim and cowrie shells from Ethiopia. It\'s an estate find, I\'m not sure how old it is or how the previous owner acquired it. I can tell you that it\'s obviously old. It features leather and cowrie shell trim around the edge, and leather around the foot. It\'s made from coiled fiber of some kind, maybe Sisal?. The fibers are dyed, and arranged in a geometric design. The dyes used to color the fibers is probably vegetable based. It\'s a vintage item, and comes complete with vintage patina from love and use, and also mellowing of the colors due to the natural composition of the materials used. The bowl is 7\" diameter around the rim, about 1 1/2\" tall over all height, and the footed part is about 1/2\" high.
