Up for sale is this Russian bone carving of a Fisherman hauling in a net full of fish. Beautifully carved with wonderful detail, this carving was done by a native craftsfman in the Siberian town of Tobolsk and acquired by by Alaska Chancellor David Outcalt and his wife on their travels through Siberia in the early 1980s arranging joint research programs on artic medicine.
This great little carvingweighs 3.0 ounces, is 6 inches in length, 1.5 inches across, and 2.25 inches tall. Mostly snow white, there is a little cream and light yellowish coloring due to the natural material being used. Also, on the bottom their appear to be letters or numbers from the artist but are too difficult for me to make out.
Also scanned is the brochure from the Beriozka store where this was purchased that provides additional info on the famous bone carvers of the Russian North, including Tobolsk where native carvers specialized in scenes of everyday life in Siberia. The brochure is for info purposes only as it is our only brochure and we can\'t send the original, but we are glad to send you scans of it if desired.
