Description: Here is a very handsome antique Flag stand or holder marked with the text and Maltese Cross insignia of the Women\'s Relief Corp. of the Grand Army of the Republic. The G.A.R. and its auxiliary was formed for the benefit of veterans in 1883 following the Civil War. Together these groups acted as a strong force behind the creation of the Memorial Day holiday to commemorate war veterans. The stand is made of cast iron and is anchored by four ball and leaf feet. It will accomodate a 3/4\" diameter Flag pole. According to its backstamp, the stand was produced by Progressive Products of Minneapolis and patented in 1924.

Condition: Very nice for its age. Some minor surface rust that can probably be cleaned off or left alone in its natural state.
