Vintage Gibson 1963 SG Standard project guitar, some parts - needs a lot of work:
$760.00

Vintage 1963 SG Standard project guitar. Includes only a few original parts, as shown in one of the photos: original pickguard, original black plastic neck spacer, and original black plastic back plate. Includes a very beat-up, non-original black rectangular hard shell case (as seen in the photo). Two bridge posts and thumbwheels are also included, but I am not sure if they are original (see photo), so you should assume that those (two bridge posts and thumbwheels) are not original.

Please note that this guitar has several major issues, and you should expect that it will need a lot of work by a skilled luthier to get anywhere into playing shape. See all 12 photos for a good look at that guitar, but this is by no means a collector’s piece or a functioning guitar in its current state.

The neck is still attached, but is basically “hanging by a thread” - the neck could easily come unattached simply by applying just a moderate bit of force. There are some cracks at the neck joint (see photo). A completely new headstock and a major replacement portion of the upper neck has been spliced on. The neck is missing the binding, and during the course of the splicing of the new upper-neck and headstock wood portion, the width of the neck at the nut has been narrowed/sanded to approximately 1.61 inches (see photo). Also, two narrow nails have been added through the fretboard in one of the upper frets (see photo), as part of the effort to reinforce the neck and keep it attached to the body.

The entire guitar has been poorly refinished. The neck inlays are original, and I believe the frets are original. Again, there is no side neck binding. I am not sure if the truss rod functions, since with the neck joint so weak, I couldn’t trust it enough to even string the guitar up. I believe the holes for the two bridge posts have been modified at some point (see photo). This guitar original came from the factor with a side-pull vibrola (not included). The headstock shape for the replaced portion of the upper neck is definitely not vintage-accurate. The original two strap buttons are also included (still attached).

Note that this guitar is being sold “as is,” with no returns, since it is missing several parts and very obviously needs a lot of work. This is absolutely a project guitar. I’ve done my best at describing what I see as the main issues, but if you buy this guitar, don’t set your expectations too high, and be sure to see all 12 photos for a detailed view of the guitar’s condition.
