VINTAGE HAIDA HAND CARVED ARGILLITE WHALE PENDANT & EAGLE EARRINGS ARTIST SIGNED
Up for sale, a real treat, two incredible carvings by two very talented artists whose work is in great demand. Beautiful carved argillite eagle earrings by Mike Brown, with abalone inlay eyes. For pierced ears. Signed Mike B/2000. Measurements are 1-1/2" long drop x 1/2" wide. Weight is 6.5 grams. Eagle carvings are 1" long. Mike is an Eagle listed artist. He was born 1955 in Old Masset on Haida Gwaii. He was mainly brought up by his Uncle Percy Brown who was a well known Haida singer. Deeply immersed in the Haida culture, Mike started carving argillite at a very early age. He was mainly inspired by his grandfather Captain Andrew Brown, a well known and respected master carver and personality. Mike is a self-taught carver and painter who works with argillite, silver, gold, drums and paddles. Today he lives and works in Queen Charlotte City as well as in the South Moresby Wilderness Park Gwaii Haanas on Haida Gwaii.
The second offering is a wonderful carved seal pendant by master carver Haida artist Glen Pollard, who has been carving and transforming dull argillite stone into fantastic carvings for over 30 years. Known as one of the premier Haida argillite carvers in the world, he lives in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii. His work is prized and sold in high end galleries. Seal pendant has bone or ivory eye, measures 2-1/4" long x 2" wide and weighs 15.8 grams. Signed: Seal Glen Pollard. Chain shown with pendant is not included. Condition of all pieces is excellent. A fabulous find for your collection of wonderful vintage Haida wearable art.
