This is a very pretty vintage hand embroidered linen tablecloth from my collection of fine heritage linens.

It is a very good quality piece extensively decorated with large stylised vases overflowing with country garden flowers - superb shaded pink roses; shaded lavender and violet flowers - accented with shaded golden and yellow flowers and jade green foliage.

The embroidery stitches for this piece are neatly worked cross stitch.

I do not often have this style of embroidery in my collection and when I do it is an opportunity to admire the simplicity of the stitch work which needs to be accurately worked to achieve the realistic flower shapes like the pink roses.

Cross stitch is one of the oldest forms of embroidery and is used throughout the world traditionally and found on old samplers. As the stitches are counted a degree of precision and patience is required especially when worked on fine linens.

I also believe that cross stitch is very much on trend at the moment. To me some of the floral ones have a resemblance of the old chintz linens.

The design is of four very large overlapping circles dominated with large vases of flowers at each corner and decorated further with a semi-circular garland of more flowers at the base of each vase and a smaller group of flowers in the middle of each side.

This displays beautifully and would be perfect for a vintage or period inspired home working well with both light and dark wood.

Perfect for a gift. I always love wrapping my linens in layers of tissue paper and pretty satin ribbons.

This has been crafted from quality white linen with traditional turned hems, drawn thread work detail and mitred corners.

The colours are a beautiful selection of turquoise, light jade green, shades of rose pinks, magenta, lavender, golden yellow, marigold and lemon.

Measurements: 51\" x 48\" (130cm x 122cm)

Condition: Vintage and in pristine condition. I have laundered this prior to listing - line dried out of doors - so it is very clean, fresh and ready for use. The colours of the embroidery silks are clear and vibrant.

I have, as always, taken many images so that it is easier to appreciate and study the amazing needlework skills of those who created these heritage pieces from a bygone era. Please do so as they form part of my description and reflect the care, time & patience that has been spent on this beautiful work. I like to think the images speak for themselves.

Each piece I list is so very different and an expression of the creativity of the embroiderer – a precious resource in this age of mass production and one to be cherished for future generations.

I am passionate about preserving these pieces for future generations, always appreciative and aware of the skill and never under estimating the amount of time taken to produce these pieces.

Some are more detailed and elaborate than others but each seem to have their own personality reflecting that of the embroiderer and sense of achievement. So much so that many of the pieces I sell, either vintage or antique, have been stored away with little use and kept for best.

To me they are an art form and a joy to behold when so much is mass produced these days. I also feel very privileged to care for these beautiful pieces getting them ready for future generations.

I accept payment by PayPal only. I aim to invoice within 24 hours of the sale ending. Please pay me within 2 days or contact me immediately to let me know otherwise.

Combining Postage for Multiple Purchases

I am always happy to do this to save you money and am finding that more people are choosing this as a sensible option. However, please help me by letting me know that this is your preference and that you are intending to offer on other items.

As long as I know, I will always keep items on one side for a reasonable amount of time but I do ask that you still pay for them within 3 days of the sale ending on each item.

I will adjust the postage and insurance costs according to the weight and value of parcel when you have completed your purchases.

Please note that if the combined weight goes over 2 kg then it must be divided into two parcels due to Royal Mail weight restrictions.

Shipping

UK buyers: I normally send 2nd class standard delivery for items valued under £25. All purchases valued over £25 will need to be sent trackable due to Royal Mail\'s insurance policy.

International buyers:

Postage costs are out of my control but I do strive very hard to keep them to a minimum and take time to work out the best deal possible. I do not charge for handling. All packaging is free of charge.

I use standard Airmail for items valued under £25.

As a security measure and for everyone’s peace of mind all items with a value of £25 and over I use either trackable Airsure or International Signed For.

For items with a value of over £50 and up to £500 the postage and insurance cost is:

If I have over-estimated the postage I always refund the difference.

I aim to post very promptly sometimes next day and always within 3 working days. I rarely post on Saturdays due to the Post Office closure at midday.

My linens are either antique or vintage and as such have a history of use, have been loved and treasured by previous owners. Many have come from English Country Estates. This to me is part of their charm and why I love collecting and selling them.

I aim to describe my linens as accurately as I can. I carefully inspect everything so that I can identify any age related flaws or blemishes and list these accordingly - carefully highlighting any defects I can see.

All my linens have been newly laundered and, where possible, air dried for added freshness. I iron all my embroidery and lace on the reverse side to enhance all the detail. I only use Environmentally friendly products - washing everything by hand and never use a tumbler dryer.

I love packing carefully with layers of acid free tissue paper and pretty satin ribbons before wrapping with bubble wrap and brown paper to what I hope is a very high standard. My linens have been treasured by generations and I like to show them, their previous owners and my buyers respect by taking care in this way.
