Vintage Hungarian Kalocsa Embroidery Lacework Folk Art Square Tablecloth

This vintage Hungarian Kalocsa embroidery lacework folk art square tablecloth dates from the mid 20th century. It is made of a white drawn cutwork lacework background, with colorful Kalocsa embroidery needlework of daisies, marigolds, cornflowers, poppies, lilies, tulips and roses floral motifs. The embroidery and lace work is exquisitely done with wonderful workmanship. Hungary\'s tradition of folk embroidery dates back to the middle ages, where Hungarian daughters learned to embroider at a very young age and a family\'s wealth was often measured or determined by the number of embroidered cloths they had. This square tablecloth measures 32 by 32 inches with a scalloped border edging done in a flower shape and is sheer, unlined. It is in excellent condition. This is a truly a wonderful piece of Hungarian textile folk art!
