This is a beautiful white saltglazed pottery dog by the famous English company, Minton\'s. It is a reproduction of an 18th century salt glaze dog. This particular figurine was produced between 1921 and 1950, according to the Minton\'s mark on the bottom. It is in excellent condition.
The dog appears to be some sort of either pointer or setter. The dogs has a great fringe on his tail. He sits on a white plinth which has lovely swirls and cartouches in a very Chippendale manner, really emphasizing the model on which this dog figurine was copied. It\'s just fabulous and would look great in so many places in your home from the mantel over the fireplace to the toile guest bedroom or even in the marble bathroom. It would fit in with Chinese Chippendale decor, Hollywood Regency, the English country house and certainly in the French Paris apartment decorating scheme. I could see him on a Kindel Chippendale dresser which has been painted in a greige Gustavian color.
The base/plinth is about 4.5\" long x about 3\" wide. The entire figure is about 6\" tall. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. Since this is salt glazed pottery, there are a couple of pindots which were done during the manufacturing and are to be expected. The dog has a very regal sense about him.
