This wood that is used to frame this hand mirror is a mystery to me. It has a very unusual grain, unlike any I\'ve seen before. It almost has the appearance of small wavy cuts in the grain, but there are none. This wood is perfectly smooth, and has no grain that can be felt when you rub your hand over it. When you pick it up and rotate the mirror from side to side, the little wavy \'cut\' marks seem to swim, and the grain changes in appearance to what appears to be a whole different wood grain. The wood has an extremely smooth, silky feel. I am stumped, and really can\'t describe it better than that. I would welcome information from anyone who has the expertise to know, or think they know, what this wood type might be!
This is a vintage item, since this type of hand mirror can usually only be found in a plastic or metal frame today. But I can not verify how old it actually might be. This unusual dresser or vanity hand mirror is in excellent condition. It is a large size mirror, and has a softly curved handle. The mirror is slightly beveled around the edges, where it meets the wood enclosure. It has no distortion, crazing or marks of any kind. This is a superior mirror, giving good clear visibility. The wood frame is strong and unwarped, and has no cracks or scratches. This hand mirror is in beautiful, like new condition. It measures 14\" long and 7 1/4\" in diameter, overall. The mirror itself has a diameter of 6\".
