Vintage pair of bookends each featuring the \"Lion of Lucerne\" after the Lion Monument in Lucerne, Switzerland. The lions are made of white metal and they each sit atop a bronze base.mmThe Lion Monument was built as a memorial to the Swiss soldiers who fought for King Louis XVI during the French Revolution. The base of each bookend is inscribed with the Latin \"HELVETIORUM FIDEI AC VIRTUTI\" which means: \"To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss.\" The lions are made of white metal and they each sit atop a bronze base. Each bookend measures 7.5\" wide by 5\" tall by 3\" deep. They are in good overall condition, but there is some wear to the patina and a small scuff to the base of one lion as pictured.
