Here we have a pair of British made STC 4021omnidirectionalmicrophones,dating from somewhere between the 1930\'s-1960\'s, andcommonly know as \"ball and Biscuit\" or \"apple and Biscuit\" microphones.

The \"shroud\" or \"colander\", looks great and has no big marks to it.Due to the reflective surface of the mics, it\'s hard to photograph.

Both mics are 4021\'s, however one has the traditional \"biscuit\" ontop, while the other has a \"shroud\" fitted.

From whatI\'vebeen told the second mic was called a \"apple andcolander\" and was used more for TV, Film and applications where the microphone was on the move.

The two microphones sound the same, however the \"shroud\" version has a higher output. I\'ve checked this against the rest of the STC 4021\'s in my collection and the results were all the same, with a higher output than the \"biscuit\" versions.

In recent times STC 4021 mics have been used by manymusicians, but mostprominentlyby the White Stripes,when theyrecorded their album \"Elephant\" at the world famous Toe Rag Studios.

The STC 4021 was a key part of their drum sound, and they liked it so much that they even wrote a song for the album called \"ball and Biscuit\"!

They are GREAT drum mics,Iused them behind and to the right of the drummers right shoulder, or out in front of the kit for some room.

You can get great room sounds depending on placement and the angle of the mics, put them up high in the rafters and you end up from some HUGE drum sounds once put through a comp....in factAbbey Road still have a bunch of these mics wired into the rafters for this purpose.

Can be used on many instruments for a nice natural sound.

Great on acoustic gtr if you have a good pre amp.

Rare to find a pair, especially a combination of both versions.

The mics come in an old cardboard box, which may or may not be original.

The mics come with newadaptors, sound you canattachyour XLR cable to the mics.
