EXCEPTIONAL VINTAGE HAND CARVED
& PAINTED PNG TRIBAL BIRD FIGURE

Presenting a fabulous vintage Subut or Ancestral Totemic bird
figure originating from the Yamok Village of the Middle Sepik region.

This fabulous free standing, three-dimensional sculptural piece
has a sleekly stylised form carved from one solid piece of timber, hand
painted with natural pigment paints and completed with inlaid shell eyes.The beautiful curved lines of the birds chest, neck and wings are
beautifully contrasted with the pointed upright beak and straight back
to create a wonderfully dynamic and perfectly balanced form.

This fine example is presented in good vintage condition with just one small
loss to the tip of the birds beak as indicated in the images. There is good overall
signs of age with light wear to the paint adding a fantastic character and charm.
A good amount of original pigment remains. This piece presents very well.

This impressive piece stands approx 50.5cms or 20 inches in height.

This fine example would make an outstanding
addition to any Papua New Guinea, Middle Sepik,
Pacific Islands, Oceanic or Tribal art collection!This wonderfully dynamic yet primitive and earthy
