Vintage RARE 1940\'s American D9AT dual dynamic microphone old antique w stand:
$635.00

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very unique and rare American D9AT dual dynamic microphone made in Los Angeles, California during the mid to late 1940\'s.

This \"ribbon style\" microphone sits on it\'s original yoke and resembled the high end RCA mics of the day. The D9AT has a look all it\'s own replicating the Skyscrapers of the day that were being built all across America. It\'s actually a dual dynamic mic however. The heavy deco influence can be seen with it rounded, smooth edges that are appealing to the eye at any angle.

The D9 series was first introduced in the late 1930\'s and had a run of about 15 to 20 years total.

It should be noted right away that while the the dynamic elements look fantastic and this mic is 100% complete...it\'s currently in non-working order. I\'m not sure what needs to be replaced or if it\'s just a bad wire but this can certainly be brought back to working condition in the right hands. I know a gentleman who has done this for one of my personal D9 mics if you are interested in doing the same?. The D9 mics were true cardioid mics having the two elements for a great range of sound. Excellent for vocals and broadcasting when in perfect working order. I have heard a few good working D9 mics and they sound fantastic. Because of it\'s current status I would suggest this mic be used for display, prop or repair purposes only until properly fixed.

The finish on this mic is certainly way above average compared to most D9A or D9AT mics I have personally seen and both thumb screws are present and work excellent. Many are often missing at least one thumb screw. The satin chrome finish shows spots of wear is the satin chrome finish which is far too common on these older mics but still has a very nice luster. The finish has been cleaned inside and out as well as on the yoke which rotates perfectly giving the mic a wide degree of tilt.

Bent and broken ribs are a common problem on these but there are absolutely no broken or fractured ribs on this old girl and it\'s probably the nicest overall D9 I have seen in a long time. All original screws are included.

This was one of American\'s finest microphones ever made and a true collectors piece because of sound, design and rarity.

The original American badge is still present and looks great as does the American decal. The original cloth inner screen that covers the elements is still present and looks great. No holes or rips. The mic with yoke is appx 8 inches high X 4 inches wide X 2 inches deep.

I would rate the overall physical condition of this mic a 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a period cast iron piece that is most likely an Emco or Eastern make. Atlas actually incorporated this exact same design when the company was informed but Atlas put their name on the bottom of the base so this is certainly an earlier version made in the late 30\'s to mid 1940\'s. The stand is quite heavy and comes with it\'s original 6 inch stem made of brass not steal and has a chrome plate finish. The base looks perfect with it\'s original paint and 3 felt screw on pads but the stem shows some chrome loss exposing the brass and there is one small dent on the stem. Still a very nice stand and perfect for this heavier D9AT mic.

Total height with the mic and stand is 15 1/2 inches. Total weight is appx 4.3 pounds

This would make a great display piece in the home, office or studio and sure to draw attention wherever it sits.
