History: The Singer Featherweight is a model series of lockstitch domestic sewing machines produced by the Singer Manufacturing Company.

Singer is significant among vintage sewing machines for their continuing popularity, active use by quilters, and high collector\'s value.

Introduced as the model 221 during the 1933 World\'s Fair, the model boasted aluminum construction, small size, and a weight of only 11 pounds (5 kg). It is estimated that Singer produced and sold some 3.0–3.5 million Featherweight machines during the model\'s lifetime. Despite being out of production for many decades, Featherweights are sought after and used by quilters. (Wikipedia)

Mr. Singer\'s History:
Most collectors of antique sewing machines say a machine must be 100 yrs
old to be classed as an antique. Sewing machines have been manufactured in
quantity since the 1850\'s. During the last half of the 19th century, there
were around 200 companies manufacturing sewing machines in the US. Of
those, less then 20 survived after the turn of the century. Of the
surviving companies, none of the machines are manufactured in this country
today, not even Singers. White sewing machines have been manufactured in
Japan since 1974 and New Home was sold to the Janome company of Japan offerDING!
