Monticello Sage Leaf Tray art dish # 3-49; one of 12 Leaves of the Month Trays created by Virginia Metalcrafters, which was founded in 1890 in Waynesboro, VA and producedsought-after quality brass until 2005. Copyrighted in 1950, the sage leaf was molded by internationally known sculptor, Oskar Hansen directly from sage leaves grown at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. The entire Leaves of the Month collection is highly sought-after and becoming increasingly scarce.
Thecollection was created by sand casting, a 10,000 year old art. Each sand mold must be destroyed in order to remove the casting, therefore each casting is unique
Thedish is signed by backstamp, which cites the 1950 copyright by VMC, and the number 3-49.
